Cozy October Farm Wedding

Updated: Jan 19

This autumn farmhouse wedding was full of whimsy and furry friends! Watch for a gentle donkey, a curious barn cat, fuzzy goats, and a very dapper horse with a bowtie. Do you like fall, apple cider, books, Star Trek, or donuts? Then boy howdy, do I have a wedding for you! Grab a plaid blanket and a mug of hot chocolate, and cozy up to browse this charming and creative fall wedding.

Sam and Rick rented an Airbnb for their wedding party, and that's where everyone got ready in the morning. The house was full of fun and laughter when I arrived, and everyone was bustling around getting ready.

I thought Sam looked like the queen of autumn in her orange lace wedding dress, with rose gold and fire orange leaves in her hair. Unsurprisingly, Sam told me that her favorite season is Autumn!

Nerds, rejoice! I squealed when I saw all of the Star Trek inspired details that Sam and Rick wove into their wedding day: Star Trek com badges to hold the boutonnieres, earrings printed with Vulcan script, custom converse sneakers embroidered with the model number of the USS Enterprise starship - and the wedding party even walked down the aisle to Star Trek theme songs!

This first look was so darn cute. Sam and Rick couldn't have been happier to see each other, and they were like two adorable giddy teenagers.

After the sweet first look, we trekked across the rental property to take bride and groom pictures in an apple orchard, next to a barn, and in a big beautiful field. I absolutely love the connection between these two, and the pure love in their expressions when they look at each other.

On our way from the getting ready house to the ceremony location, we made a stop at Sam's mother's house to visit a very special friend, who had his very own hat and bow tie for the occasion!

Sam and Rick had their outdoor October wedding at Sam’s aunt’s farmhouse in the rolling countryside of central Michigan. The details were truly the star of the show at this wedding. From the flower arrangements to the yard games to the desserts, nothing was overlooked. For instance, each of their chairs for the ceremony was lovingly thrifted and unique.

Sam and Rick's wedding ceremony was heartwarming, down to earth, and full of tears and laughter. The wedding party sequestered away inside the cozy farmhouse before heading out to begin the ceremony in the front lawn.

After the ceremony, we snuck away to the back pasture for family and wedding party pictures!

And that was the moment when it started pouring! If rain means good luck on your wedding day, then Sam and Rick got very lucky! We all dashed into the nearby barn as fast as we could, just in the nick of time. Someone braved the storm to bring the wedding party blankets, and we hunkered down to wait out the weather. Even though it was absolutely freezing, the bridesmaids and groomsmen were all in high spirits, and everyone was full of smiles and laughter. I loved how positive and fun this group was!

After that brief interlude, brought to you by mother nature, we got back to snapping group photos! How cute are the Star Trek boutonnières?!

And then the reception kicked off with a delicious taco food truck! There were also plenty of lawn games, and a spread of delectable autumnal desserts, lovingly arranged by the intrepid wedding planners Tessa and Jeremy of Weddings by Tessa Co.

And finally, we finished up the evening with a few more photos of Sam's beautiful second dress, and a champagne toast!
